Ben Thatcher
On 12/02/1988: Ben Thatcher was born in England. He grew up in Rustington, West Sussex. When he was 18 months old, he played on a pots and pans drumkit. At the age of six, his parents bought him his first full-size drum kit. He listened to a lot of music and was particularly inspired by Dave Grohl of Nirvana.In around 2005, he first met Mike Kerr at a gig in Chichester, where Mike tried to hit on Ben's girlfriend. The two of them would be briefly part of a four piece band called Flavour Country. Kerr would travel to India and Nashville in the US (to visit Jack White's Third Man Records) before moving to Australia for nine months. When Kerr returned to the UK, Thatcher picked him up from the airport. The two of them decided to form a band, which became known as Royal Blood. Thatcher was working as a barman as well pursuing music.
During 2013, the two of them rehearsed in Brighton. Mike Chappell from Warner/Chappell wrote them an email asking if they had a publisher. He met them in Brighton and cleared money for them to quit their jobs for a year and concentrate on music. The band signed to Wildlife Management. Also in 2013, Matt Helders from the Artic Monkeys wore a Royal Blood T-shirt during the Artic Monkeys set at Glastonbury, which helped promote the band. At the end of 2013, Royal Blood was nominated for the BBC's annual "Sound Of" poll.
In 2014, Royal Blood released their debut album "Royal Blood", it went to number 1 on the UK charts. Their 13 date UK tour sold out in two minutes. They played at South by Southwest in Texas; Liverpool Sound City Festival; BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend; Download Festival and Glastonbury Festival amongst others.
In 2015, Royal Blood toured with Iggy Pop and the Foo Fighters in the US. They also went on a European tour. Also in 2015, They won a BRIT award for "Best British Group".
In 2016, they released a new track called "Where Are You Now" which was featured on the HBO tv show "Vinyl".
