On this day 17/09/1931: At the Savoy Plaza Hotel, New York, RCA-Victor demonstrated the first long-playing record, which was a 33 1/3 rpm recording. The business of selling them failed to take off initially due to the high price. A record player would start at $95 (worth around $1140 today). It would be 1948 before the LP was revived.
