Susan Tedeschi

On 09/11/1970: Susan Tedeschi was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Norwell, Massachusetts. At the age of six, Tedeschi was an understudy in a Broadway musical. During her youth, she sang for family and listened to the vinyl of artists like Mississippi John Hurt and Lightning Hopkins. Tedeschi attended predominately African-American Baptist churches as she felt the music was "less repressed and more like a celebration of God". She started to perform in bands at the age of 13, by the time she was 18 she formed a band called Smokin' Section. After graduating from Norwell High School, she attended Berklee College of Music. At the college, she would sing in the Gospel choir. She performed on the ship "Spirit of Boston" and would perform at blues jams in local venues. At the age of 20, she received her Bachelor of Music degree in musical composition and performance.
In 1993, Tedeschi formed the Susan Tedeschi Band. It would include Tom Hambridge and Adrienne Hayes.
In 1995, Tedeschi learned to play blues guitar in Boston from Tim Gearan. Later that year the Susan Tedeschi Band released the album "Better Days" within the region.
In 1997, Richard Rosenblatt acquired recording session and the band signed to indy label Tone-Cool Records.
In 1998, the album "Just Won't Burn" was released, featuring guitarist Sean Costello. It received very positive reviews. In the same year, Susan was the first artist to play at the first Sunset Sessions in the US Virgin Islands.
In 1999, Tedeschi played several dates in all woman travelling festival Lilith Fair, organised by Sarah McLachlan. Over the previous year, she had begun to build up large crowds whilst touring throughout the US.
Tedeschi was the opening act for artists such as John Mellencamp, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, The Allman Brothers Band, Taj Mahal and Bob Dylan.
In 2000, "Just Won't Burn" reached Gold record status in the US.
In 2001, Tedeschi recorded on two tracks for Double Trouble's album "Been a Long Time". It was also that year that Susan married guitarist Derek Trucks, who was a band member for the Allman Brothers Band, as well as his own group The Derek Trucks Band.
In 2003, Tedeschi opened for The Rolling Stones.
In 2004, she was featured on the PBS show "Austin City Limits".
In 2007, Susan and her husband Derek began performing as a group called Soul Stew Revival. The group included members of The Derek Trucks Band, as well members of Susan Tedeschi's band. The following year, they added a three-piece horn section.
In 2010, Susan and Derek announced a hiatus for their solo bands and the formation of a new group called Tedeschi Trucks Band. The group performed at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival and Fuji Rock Festival amongst others.
In 2011, Tedeschi Trucks Band released their debut album "Revelator". The album would win a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. Susan had been nominated five times previously for Grammy Awards.
In 2012, they released the live album "Everybody's Talkin'".
In 2013, the album "Made Up Mind" was released. It won a Blues Music Award in the category of Rock Blues Album of the Year.
In 2016, Tedeschi Trucks Band released "Let Me Get By".
